IE DEBATE CLUB

Awarded IE Best Professional Club in 2021, 2023 and 2024, the IEU Debate Club is one of the biggest student societies at IE University, with +500 affiliates, and 54 in our debate teams, ranging from different degrees inside IEU. Each year, we are in charge of sending delegations to the most renowned competitions across the world, ranging from Spain, Europe, and the United States.

Also, we are in charge of providing the IE Community with the necessary training in soft skills to succeed in their future endeavors, including negotiation, public speaking, and argumentation abilities.

Mission: Create a safe space for any member of the IE Community to feel free to express their ideas, as well as to learn how to do so by training students in soft and hard skills to achieve professional success.

Vision: Promote a world where debate and negotiation are the way to resolve conflicts in an increasingly complex international context.

What our members say!

Lucas Iturmendi:

“The Debate club, in my opinion, is not just the best club, but one of the best things about my entire experience at IE. Not only are you granted a unique opportunity to grow academically, but you are also immersed in a very welcoming community of talented and ambitious students that all end up being your friends. It’s been a privilege to be a member of a club with such politically aware and socially engaged people. The constructive energy and devotion toward collectively improving has been a factor fostering motivation unlike anywhere else!”

Arianna López:

“I’ve been doing MUN for 10 years, and during the last couple of them I realised why do I keep doing it regarding of the effort and sacrifices it requires: the people. Those who have the courage to join an MUN delegation are often ambitious, disciplined, and committed people, and on top of all that, they’re also great human beings. I find it to be of the most enriching environments due to the quality of the people you get to share them with, and who later get to become great friends for the rest of your life.”

Shimwa Omanwa:

“I went from not speaking in the trainings to being able to compete at the highest level of academic debate at Harvard, in the space of a year and a half. This all very much down to not only hard work, but also to the amazing guidance of Kevin, our coach, and the people within the club, as we all truly learn from each other all the time. Throughout our trainings, we are taught to adapt quickly whilst thinking strategically in tough situations, which is a very practical skill useful for any situation. I think the highlight of the overall experience was the people, not only our delegation, but also the friends that I made at LIMUN and HNMUN.”

Margarita Peces:

“IE has been key in allowing all of us to go to delegations. Of course the financial support from our sponsors (IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs, IE Campus Life, IE Foundation & IE Business School) was essential for students from all backgrounds to be able to afford this trip. Nonetheless, their support for Debate Club to other events to raise funds and to balance this experience with the student’s academic commitments were also essential.”

Mario Sanz:

“There is a certain feeling of pride when getting the opportunity to represent your university abroad, in competitions, and I believe this was definitely something that I enjoyed. Also, I had time to, not only debate great delegates from other universities, but also do some tourism and create fun memories with my teammates, which excel even more the experience.”
